Daylight saving time

When are watches changed to daylight saving time or standard time? Watches are adjusted twice a year, in the spring and the autumn. Watches are moved forward or backward by one hour, depending on the season, whether transitioning to daylight saving time or standard time. There's an easy mnemonic to remember the direction of the change - always towards summer.

The purpose of watch adjustment is to increase the amount of daylight in people's normal daily rhythm, allowing people to be more active. This means the sunset occurs one hour later in the evening, rather than when most people are still sleeping.

Time adjustment in 2023

The transition to standard time occurs every year on the last Sunday of October. The next transition to standard time will be on October 29, 2023, at 04:00. The clocks will be set back by one hour, so it will become 03:00.

The transition to daylight saving time always happens on the last Sunday of March. The next transition to daylight saving time in 2023 will be on March 26, at 03:00, when the clocks will be set forward by one hour, becoming 04:00.

Changing the time on a clock or watch

Modern devices like smartphones adjust the time automatically, but adjusting the time on a wristwatch, for example, requires a quick but simple three-step process:

1. Pull the crown, located on the side of the wristwatch, towards yourself.
2. Turn the crown clockwise and set the correct time.
3. Finally, push the crown back in to start the watch again.

When does daylight saving time or standard time begin?
