The HAVU story
The story of HAVU began when two brothers from Oulu went on an ice fishing trip.
Our story began on an ice fishing trip in the northeastern part of Northern Ostrobothnia, in Taivalkoski. With the biting cold, calming silence, and the ancient Finnish forest surrounding us, we understood that this northern atmosphere had to be captured into a wooden wristwatch. As entrepreneurs and devoted watch enthusiasts we are right at home designing elegant and sustainable watches.
It was the year 2019 when we decided it was time to create something unique and one of a kind. We wanted to bring to the market a wristwatch that combined comfort, style, and attitude. We decided to merge our two favorite things - watches and nature. We knew right away that wood was the one and only option for the raw material for our watches.
We want to remind ourselves of our roots. We want to remember that despite technological leaps and smartphones, we are still - in some way -a part of nature.
Wood as a Material – The responsible choice while considering Sustainable Development
Out of love for nature, we wanted to act responsibly according to the principles of sustainable development. We wanted to make sustainable choices from the beginning, so the use of natural materials aligned well with our values – it is through such decisions that we can conserve the Earth's resources. We use as much Finnish wood that is sourced from domestic producers as possible in our products.
Wood has always been an essential element in Finnish culture. It has been used to build ships, buildings, newspapers, and banknotes, which elevated Finland among other Western countries during industrialization. The forest holds a different significance for us. It's a place where the hustle and bustle of the city and everyday problems don't follow. The forest is an integral part of being Finnish and the Finnish psyche. It's reflected in us every day. We are a quiet people who endure and thrive under pressure.

Wood is a superior material in terms of its properties. Besides its elegance, it is lightweight and feels pleasant against the wrist – a wooden watch doesn't make your wrist feel sweaty in the summer heat or chilly in the winter cold. We wanted to introduce a watch that we would enjoy using ourselves. Style, durability, and attitude had to come together in a high-quality and functional way. We reached out to numerous manufacturers and suppliers until we were able to assemble a watch that met all of our requirements. As a part of our practice, we hold Design Days within the entire team, allowing each of us to genuinely influence the appearance and design of the next HAVU watch. We listen carefully to both our customers' wishes and our team's opinions when creating stunning HAVU designs.
